Hello, I'm Joan Chen, a Developmental and Clinical Psychologist working with children, adolescents, and adults.
My path into psychology was shaped by a deep curiosity about people and the belief that everyone deserves a space where they can feel heard, understood, and supported. Like many people, I've experienced seasons of uncertainty, challenge, and growth. Those experiences have shaped not only who I am, but also the kind of psychologist I strive to be.
Today, I support individuals across different stages of life through psychological assessment, therapy, and consultation. Whether you're seeking clarity, support, or a better understanding of yourself or your loved one, I hope to offer a thoughtful and collaborative space where we can explore what matters most to you.
I hold a Master's degree in Developmental Psychology and a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology. I am a registered clinical psychologist with the Malaysian Allied Health Professions Council (MAHPC(CP)00751). My professional experience includes working with children, adolescents, adults, and families across a range of emotional, behavioural, developmental, and mental health concerns.
My areas of interest include:
• Neurodevelopmental differences, including autism and ADHD in children and adults
• Child and adolescent mental health
• Anxiety and mood-related difficulties
• Psychological assessment
• Emotional wellbeing and life transitions
I am committed to providing evidence-based, ethical, and culturally responsive care tailored to each individual's unique circumstances and goals.
I believe there is no single "right" way to move through life. Each person brings their own experiences, strengths, values, and challenges, and therapy should reflect that.
My approach is collaborative, flexible, and individualised. I work alongside clients to better understand their experiences, identify patterns that may be keeping them stuck, and develop practical ways of moving towards the life they want to live. At times, this may involve reflection and exploration; at others, it may involve learning new skills or finding different ways of responding to challenges.
Above all, I aim to create a space where you can show up as you are—without pressure to have everything figured out.
Outside of psychology, I enjoy creative pursuits, discovering new music and dramas, and spending time with my dog. These moments remind me of the importance of curiosity, connection, play, and rest—qualities that I believe are just as important for wellbeing as growth and achievement.
While therapy focuses on your story rather than mine, I believe that bringing warmth, authenticity, and humanity into the therapeutic relationship is an important part of the work we do together.
